All-on-4® Treatment Concept

Tooth loss can damage your oral health, overall health, and your self-esteem. With missing teeth, speaking and eating become more difficult and your jawbone will deteriorate. This condition worsens as more teeth are lost.

When asked about treatments for tooth loss, the first thing people think of is dentures. But while dentures are a well-known traditional option to treat tooth loss, there's an alternative: the All-on-4® Treatment Concept.

Problems With Traditional Dentures

Despite the advancements dentures have undergone in recent years, they still have significant disadvantages:
•  Dentures can slip or even fall out.
•  You must remove them every night and clean them thoroughly.
•  The denture base can rub your gums, causing painful sores.
•  You must get a new set periodically to improve comfort and performance.

Dentures also have another and even bigger problem. Consider that in a healthy mouth where all the teeth are present, the tooth roots will stimulate the jawbone to keep it healthy. When teeth are lost, the jawbone loses that stimulation and begins deteriorating. Since dentures rest on top of the gums, they cannot restore the jawbone’s vitality.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a better choice than dentures because they consist of titanium posts that are surgically embedded into the jawbone. The posts bond with the jawbone and give it the stimulation it needs.

Dental implants are used to replace a single tooth or even an entire arch of missing teeth.

What is the All-on-4 Method?

To replace a full arch of teeth, we’ll usually need 6 to 8 implants to support them. But if you don’t have enough bone mass, your jawbone might not have enough strength to fuse to the posts. The whole restoration can end up ruined if even one post comes loose. If you need a bone graft to place some of the implants, that will require additional surgery.

All-on-4 allows us to place a full arch restoration with 6 to 8 implants without a preceding (and costly) bone graft procedure. The All-on-4 method strategically places 4 posts in places where they can support the entire arch. 2 posts are placed vertically near the front of the jaw, which has more bone mass, and the other 2 are put in the back of the mouth. The posts are positioned at a 45-degree angle, maximizing contact between them and the jawbone and allowing them to fuse most effectively.

What are the Advantages of All-on-4?

All-on-4 has several advantages over dentures:
•  Fewer implants and no bone grafts makes this procedure much less expensive than a full arch restoration
•  Your recovery time is reduced
•  You undergo less surgery
•  You don’t need to remove and clean them at night
•  They are comfortable and easier to care for
•  They don’t slip or come loose
•  They stimulate the jawbone and keep it healthy

Dentures can’t offer all these benefits. If you have multiple missing teeth, All-on-4 is a great restoration option.
